Concerns over human trafficking increasing in the build-up to the World Cup were raised at the UN-sponsored Global Initiative to Counter Human Trafficking which was held in Cape Town. While SA is a signatory to the UN protocol on human trafficking, there are concerns that the World Cup could provide an ideal market since no specific legislation exists. Anglican Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane (above) said 80% of those trafficked were women and children, in most cases for sexual purposes. Photo: Project 2010 |
